His Divine Grace Srila Prabhupada was born in 1896 in Calcutta, India. Upon seeing Srila Prabhupada’s horoscope an astrologer once predicted that he would build a house in which whole world can live. The inspiration for this came when Srila Prabhupada met his spiritual master Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakura in 1922. This instruction was to preach the message of Krishna to the western world. The message repeated as the final word from the spiritual master in 1936, which Srila Prabhupada took as his life and soul. He spent three decades in trying to fulfill his guru’s order and finally succeeded in 1965 when he reached America.

It was after almost a year of great difficulty that he established the International Society for Krishna Consciousness in July of 1966. Under his careful guidance, the Society grew within a decade to a worldwide confederation of almost one hundred ashramas, schools, temples, institutes and farm communities. Srila Prabhupada left the world in 1977, and within the span of these twelve years he wrote over sixty volumes of authoritative translations, commentaries and summary studies of the philosophical and religious classics of India.

In 1968, Srila Prabhupada created New Vrndavana, an experimental Vedic community in the hills of West Virginia which was greatly successful and inspired creation of many such communities in the United States and abroad. In 1972, he introduced Gurukula school in Dallas, Texas, which began with three students and grew to over one hundred fifty students in just three years. Srila Prabhupada also inspired the construction of a large international center at Sridhama Mayapur in West Bengal, the birthplace of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.

Srila Prabhupada left a legacy for his disciples to carry forward and today this mission has grown into over 300 centers all over the world..
