The Akshaya Patra Foundation is the world’s biggest mid-day meal seriving NGO. This Bangalore based organization commenced its activities in Gujarat in July 2007, with the first kitchen in Gandhinagar, inaugurated by the then Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Narendra Modi.
Speaking on the occasion Shri Narendra Modi said, “The Gujarat government has been running the Mid Day Meal program for the last several years. But we encourage public private partnership. We welcome Akshaya Patra and commend its technology–intensive mechanised kitchen model. When NGOs come they bring soul to the program.”
The kitchens are innovatively engineered and equipped with the state-of-the-art machinery. The chapati-making machines can roll out 60,000 chapatis in one hour & the rice cookers can cook rice for 1200 children within just 15 minutes. Food is prepared under highest hygienic standards.
Akshaya Patra has four kitchens managed by the Gujarat Chapter, which are serving mid-day meal to over 1,73,000 children. The kitchen facilities are installed in Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat & Bhavnagar.
